These gates are used on spillways of dams and barrages which are open and close automatical ly by responding to the changes in water levels. One can override the automatic regulation of the gates with the help of emergency hoisting system.
These are hinged gates, with the leaf (or skin) in the form ofa circular arc with the centre of curvature at the hinge or trunnion. In hoisting mechanism, a cable is used that is winched up by a motor placed on a bridge situated above the piers.
These are usually steel beams fitting into end grooves between walls or piers to close an opening under unbalanced conditions, usually handled or placed one at a time. These stop-logs may be inserted into grooves etched into piers and used during repair / maintenance ofa regular gate.
Vertical gates move within a vertical groove inside between two piers. These are used to control the flow over the crest of a hydraulic structure and are usually equipped with wheels. This type of gate is commonly used for barrages and dams.
