Mrs. Medha Tilwankar and Mr. Kedar Tilwankar founded Silky Carving company in 2011 at Pune, Maharashtra, India. We started with a vision to create a complete new segment in the art field. We chose needlework art as our medium for it. A cloth became our canvas and threads became the paints! We thought that each copy of this art should be original needlework. We wanted every person should have an opportunity to buy an original art piece. We also thought to create art pieces based on subjects from our rich heritage of Indian art, history and culture! This was challenging considering needlework art itself has some inherent challenges. The threads do not get mixed in each other to create shades, the number of shades available for threads are limited. Still we wanted to achieve portraits and abstracts with perfect shades and features. Here the ingenious step came….to merge the technology with art! We experimented for a couple of years to achieve the new techniques. We also introduced a complete new concept of creating portraits in “sepia” color tone. Sepia has a special ability to cut down the distractions due to colors and it attaches the viewers to the feelings and expressions of the personality! Once we mastered the new technique, we created portraits of Gods, Gurus and great personalities related to Indian cultures. Our abstract designs were based on the Indian history and heritage. These abstract designs are really great products for corporate gifting.
