Since iron oxide in Alloy 20 Wires has lower density than steel, the film expands and tends to flake and fall away. Hot forming in Carpenter 20 Round Bars should be in the range 1400 Degree F 2150 Degree F (760 Degree C 1175 Degree C). After hot working, anneal Carpenter 20 Bars by heating to 1725 Degree F and 1850 Degree F for a minimum of 30 minutes per inch of thickness followed by water quench.
