Based on its long-term experience, the Stiefel Ltd. converted their know-how into the STIEFEL combustion control system.For an optimal guiding and controlling of the process, it is an obligated condition for an efficient actuator including a direct influence on the combustion, e.g, zonal air supply with single-blowers, equipped with FU’s and flowrate-gaging, feeder equipped with exact path measurement and regulated synchronic run, individual pace for every grate step.

A hydraulic cylinder installed on each side of the grate step, allow a linear movement of each step. Positioning and synchronisation is achieved by an integrated measuring and sensor system. High-quality components provide safe operation as well as the required reliability, even though they are working in a hostile environment inside the grate zones. None of the drive components penetrate the grate side walls; therefore the grate construction is totally enclosed.

The  completely water cooled construction  characterises the STIEFEL grate. Due to the cooling, the supporting structure, the grate steps as well as the side walls are not exposed to a significant thermal expansion and movement. The single drive system is the  most flexible of all grate drive systems . This flexibility is a key advantage, allowing for a perfectly  controlled energy release  and clean combustion  of the various fuels. Due to the positions of the sensors, and the proportional valves, each grate step can be individually driven according to real-time requirements. This optimal operation  is the result of the complete interaction of components within the STIEFEL combustion control system. Because of multiple drive units, the reliability is dramatically increased, due to the redundancy factor they provide within the system.   Internal Grate Drive For 20 years, the internal drive option is implemented into all STIEFEL-combustion systems by default. Due to the impressive simplicity of the mechanism, the internal drive system is the most direct and straightforward drive option. External Grate Drive This refined development results in a drive system with external hydraulic cylinders. Its main advantage is the possibility of immediately being able to replace a failing drive element whilst continuing normal operations. The externally applied force is transmitted through the grate side wall, to the grate step by a shaft. High quality materials are used to ensure the most effective compact drive unit. More available space outside the grate allows the implementation of various cylinder sizes. Therefore, more powerful drive cylinders can be installed instead of the standard ones a particular advantage for wide grates.

This door model is used in particular when there is a restricted height. The entire set-up includes an appropriate frame, the hydraulics and the electrical system. The swinging doors are welded steel profiles and have on both sides flat metal surfaces. The doors are each operated by a hydraulically powered ram, with a high torque.
