A homogeneous, foliated metamorphic, fine-grained rock is slate that has originated from the sedimentary rocks. The common occurrence of slates is in different shades of grey but the color such as cyan, purple and green are also exhibited by this. Slabs and thin sheets can also be made by further dividing and splitting the slates.
