Simethicone is a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane with silicone dioxide. It is known in the pharmaceutical formulations as an active ingredient. The clinical use of simethicone is based on its antifoam properties; in particular it is used in the symptomatic treatment of flatulence, functional gastric bloating and postoperative gas pains.
