Ketonic Resin is a condensation product of cyclohexanone and formaldehyde to give a solid product, which includes carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. The product is a pale yellow to light yellow solid having solubility in aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, glycols, esters, ketones, chlorinated hydrocarbon and so on but is insoluble in water. Its solubility in nonpolar solvents such as mineral oil, aliphactic hydrocarbon, alicyclic hydrocarbon is limited, which should be taken in account during usage. They have wide compatibility with nitrocellulose of alcohol soluble grade, short oil alkyd resins, amino resins, phenolic resins and polyamide resins. This resin finds its major use in ball pen inks and calendar inks. It exhibit good wetting and dispersion to the paints. It can also improve adhesion, gloss and hardness of coating. It can be called as excellent multifunctional coating additive. Also it can be used in flexographic & gravure ink formulations, lamination inks, lacquers and paper inks, PU systems, nitrocellulose paints, varnishes, heat seal coatings, primer and base coatings, gasoline resistant coatings & nail lacquers.
