Preliminary treatment: Bar screens large debris like rags, paper and leaves from the influent water. Primary treatment: Scum floats and sludge settles at the bottom of the primary setting tank.Skimmers remove scum from the surfase of the water and Scrapers remove sludge from the tank bottom both are sent on to the solids handiling process. Secondary treatement: It is a biological process where primary effluent is pumped to aeration tanks where oxygen is added to encourage growth of desirable micro-organisms.Micro-organisms consumes suspended and dissolved organic material present in waste water, in the process they produce more bacteria.

We have presumed that the characteristics of the raw water will be remaining in the above range ane we have considered for both the river and well water as an input to the treatment plant. Physico-chemical treatment section. The Raw Water from the river is first collected into the underground primary setting tank for holding raw water equivalent to minimum 24 hours requirement of the treatment plant.This is required for the primary setting of the suspended materials and also maintaining a steady flow of the water into treatment plant as well as maintaining more or less uniform characteristics of the raw water for treatment in the treatment plant. Bar screen fitted at the inlet removes macro suspended particles.

SOFTENER : Softener is used for removing Hardness salts (e.g.Ca, Mg. salts of Corbonate, Sulphate & Hydroxides) from water. It consists of lon-Exchange Resin in sodium form.When hard water passes through Softener bed, Sodium ions of Resin are exchanged with Ca and Mg ions and generate Soft water.Once the resin beds are saturated with Ca & Mg, the unit required regeneration with brine salt.  DE-ALKALISER : It is used for reducing alkalinity of the water.Weak Acid Cation Exchange Resin can remove all Cations which are associated with alkalinity. The alkalinity gets converted to Carbonic acid which splits in the CO2 and water.The CO2 is removed by the de-gassifier.  This is following when the Alkalinity of water is higher than Hardness.  WAC + De-gasser system is usaed when the entire hardness is bicarbonate Hardness i.e. Temporary Hardness. But when Alkalinity is Lower then Hardness, then the Hardness excess of Alkalinity shall be non-Carbonate Hardness i.e. Permanent Hardness.This Hardness can not be removed by WAC resin, in that case split strem and de-gasser system is recommended.Once stream is passed through Softener where as the second stream is passed through SAC.Both streams are mixed and passed through the de-gasser.

Dual Media Filter (DMF) : Dual Media Filter primarily used to Filter out Turbidity in the raw up to level of 50 NTU.It consists of of sand and Anthracite as Filtering Medium, Anthracite having higher dirt holding capacity is used for removing turbidity.  Activated carbon Filters (ACF) : Activated carbon Filters consists of charcoal which is used as a media for removal of Free Residual Chlorine, Colour, Odour and Oil in small quantity.  Pressure Sand Filter (PSF) : Fine mesh sand along with gravel of different sizes are used as the filtering Media.
