ProPlas Technologies was contracted by a customer in the dental industry to complete the manufacturing of the grip for an ultrasonic dental tool. We designed the over-mold to meet customer requirements, choosing thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) for the construction. Our 65 ton electric molding machine was employed for the over-moldinginsert molding process. Since a scrap part on the grip would mean rejecting the entire $54 assembly, the rejection rate had to be kept as low as possible. The grip is available in 6 color options and 2 styles, for a combined 12 possibilities. The molded grip was assembled to completion, and was subjected to comprehensive testing including dimensional, visual, and functional criteria. The completed grip measured 2" in length with a diameter of 0.400". The original tooling and samples were produced in 9 weeks. Typical production leadtimes are approximately 10 days, with shipments of 400 units per month throughout the USA. This part is manufactured under FDA oversight and meets the rigorous quality standards of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. We have all been to the dentist and wondered to ourselves just how many tools the doctor could fit into our mouths. While we had this vision in mind at ProPlas Technologies, we were pleased to assist one of our dental industry customers that needed custom kitting and injection molding of a mouthpiece device designed to alleviate the oral parking crunch. At ProPlas Technologies, we referred to this dental device as a Mouthpiece, which combined lighting, suction, tongue and cheek retraction and a bite block in a single tool. We designed and fabricated the molds; injection molded the Mouthpiece and other supporting components. We assembled several of the more complex electronic components utilizing UV-cured adhesive, inspected, and custom kitted the entire system. We could supply the device both in kitted form (with full instructions) as well as individual components. We worked from customer specifications, 2D QA drawings and 3D design databases.
