During manufacturing, the spring tension in the instrument is adjusted in order to obtain the tension and feel required to precisely control the instrument without tiring the surgeons hand. The claws are carefully designed to grasp and let go easily. Equal importance is assigned to the grooves in order to achieve a perfect fit, so that the best possible grip is assured without causing unnecessary tissue damage.
Few surgical instruments have to be more enduring than needle holders. Stilles needle holders guarantee a firm and secure grip of the needle. Most of Stilles needle holders are equipped with hard carbide metal inserts in order to increase durability, while a smaller proportion of the range uses diamond jaws.
