what is passive fire protection?
passive fire protection are the systems made of non-combustiblefire resistant materials andcomponentsused to minimise damage to life and property by confining the fire and stopping spread of firefor sufficient time to permit the safe evacuation of all occupants of the premises untilthe arrival of the fire officers. The person responsible for fire safety also has a duty of care towards any members of the emergency services, e.g. Fire fighters, who may have to enter the premises during the course of a fire; in slowing the spread of flames, smoke and hot gases, passive fire protection also serves to ensure the building remains as safe as possible for entry in this situation.
passive fire protection is achieved by maximising use of fire resistantstructural and non structural building components and minimise use of combustible materials. Sealing of joints and concealed spaces with fire resistant sealant and other fire stopping materials.
what is fire resistance?
fire resistance is a thermo-mechanical property of a building componentthat reflects the performancein terms of stability, integrity, and insulation requirements for a stated periodagainst fire.
stability (load bearing capacity)
ability of a load bearing component to withstand fire exposure without any loss of structural stability.
integrity
resistance to penetration of flames, hot gases, and smoke.
insulation
resistance to temperature rise on unexposed face upto a maximum 180 degree c at any single point and average temperature of 140 degree c.
at wedge we produce high performance and low cost passive fire protection systems.
