Applications

A. Increasing the wet fastness of direct dyes

Dyeing or prints made with direct colours often show a tendency to bleed in water. This puts serious limitation to their usefulness. ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 is very effective in preventing the bleeding.

The bleeding of direct colours on contact with water is due to the fact that the absorption of the dyestuff on the cellulose is reversible, so that as soon as the dyed material comes in contact with water, the dissipation of the dye molecule starts. ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50, which is a cationic surface active agent, unites with the dye anion, producing a more complex molecule which is insoluble or sparingly soluble. The resulting salt of the dyestuff anion and ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 does not hydrolyse in contact with water and is thus 'fixed' on the fabric. Treatment of goods dyed or printed with direct colours with a dilute solution of ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50' has the following effects :

• Treatment with ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 increases the fastness to water. perspiration and to wet finishing of direct dyed or printed colours on cotton. rayon. spun rayon and silk.
• Treatment with ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 is effective with all direct colours.
• Treatment with ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 does not change the feel or handle of the goods.
• Treatment with ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 might gives minimul change in the shades of dyeings.
• Treatment with ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 might have a slight effect on light fastness of some colours.

Fields of application :

• After treatment of padded direct colours or colours dyed on the fibre machine.
• After treatment of direct colour dyed grounds for discharge printings, to prevent bleeding into the white discharge.
• After treatment of mixed fibre fabrics with strips of acetate, to prevent bleeding of the direct colours dyed on the rayon into the acetate threads when the wet goods are piled up.
• After treatment of direct colour dyed warps to prevent bleeding of the colour into the slashing bath.
• Increasing the water fastness of fabrics for umbrella manufacture.

B. Increasing the wet fastness of Reactive Dyes :

The wash fastness of reactive dyes is usually extremely good. However, bleeding of the colour is sometimes observed as the loosely held dye goes away. ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 effectively fixes the loose dye and prevents the possible bleeding. Treatment with ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 for fixing the reactive dyes is extremely useful under the following circumstances :-

• When the final washing off is not as thorough as required. The final washing off of goods dyed with reactive dyes has to be very thorough for the following reasons :

1. The exhaustion of the reactive dyes from the dyebath is often not good and much of the dyestuff is usually retained in the dyeing bath.
2. Reactive dyes hydrolyses in water. The hydrolysed dye which does not enter into the chemical combination is substantive towards cellulose and does not possess good wet fastness.
3. When a thorough washing off is not given the loosely held dyestuff and hydrolysed dye start bleeding in contact with water. 2.

• When it is necessary to safeguard the dyeing against marking off duringstorage.
• When the goods dyed with reactive dyes are stored under humid or slightly acid conditions, some of the fixed dyestuff can become detached from the cellulose and 'mark off' on adjacent goods.
• When the dyeing is in medium to full shades, where the highest fastness to water and perspiration are demanded.

Suagestions for use

The dyed material is dipped in 0.5 to 1 gm/lt of solution of ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 at room temperature for 10-15 minutes at a bath ratio depending on the method of application.

Precautions

The effect of ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 decreases in alkaline bath. It is adviseable to keep the ZC - DYE FIXING AGENT 50 solution slightly acidic before and during use by addition of acetic acid.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be sound, clean and free of contaminants. Absorbent surfaces e.g. concrete should preferably be dampened with water. In kitchens, toilets and other wet areas all the openings should be properly sealed. On all weak points such as cracks or around the pipes use a woven fibre glass mesh as reinforcement between the two coats of ZC- ELASTOFALT

Application

ZC- ELASTOFALT can be applied by brush, roller or squeegee. Hot, dry or very porous substrate should be dampened with clean water prior to application of ZC- ELASTOFALT. When two or more coats are required, ensure that the preceding coat is fully dry before applying the successive coat, which should b e applied at right angle to proceeding coat. ZC- ELASTOFALT also acts as a non-degradable curing membrane; hence it may be applied immediately after the removal of mould, to the concrete structure, which has no aesthetic value such as the sub structure of the building.

Exterior masonry walls—particularly ones that are weathered—have long represented one of the most difficult maintenance challenges for the contractor, the painter, and the waterproofer alike.

Most typical exterior surfaces can be successfully protected and maintained by the regular applications of high quality conventional acrylic latex paints. But even the best paints often tend to split and fail when they have been applied over the surface cracks that develop as masonry ages

A Better Alternative: Elastomeric Wall Coatings 

The construction chemical industry has known about the limitations of traditional paints on masonry. For almost that long, the industry has been searching for better alternatives. Early attempts to solve the cracking problem, involved formulating coatings with polymers not generally used in conventional paints. Many of these experimental systems provided acceptable service as dirt-resistant coatings.

Unfortunately, virtually all of the polymers tested formed hard films that were too rigid to accommodate the temperature-related fluctuation in the dimensions of the cracks. Inevitably, coatings based on these hard polymers fractured, exposing the masonry to the elements once again.

Recognizing that hard binders were not the answer, the industry turned to "softer'' polymers with much lower glass transition temperatures. Many of the products investigated were already seeing use as binders for caulks and sealants. Because they had low glass transition temperatures, they furnished excellent elasticity and flexibility over a wide range of temperatures.

ADVANTAGES:

Instead of depending on a separate, external component to impart flexibility to the film, 100% acrylic elastomeric polymers derive elasticity from a unique combination of special composition, molecular weight, and crosslinking. As a result, they retain flexibility over periods of time. Moreover, formulations based on the 100% acrylic elastomeric polymers exhibit their elastomeric properties over a broad range of temperatures. Thus, the performance of waterborne coatings based on the acrylic elastomerics remains consistently outstanding under all conditions.

In comparing the different types of binders in other areas of performance, the 100% acrylic binders have a significant edge over styrenated products in the area of ultraviolet stabiiity, over viny! acetate products in the area of hydrolysis resistance, and over both chemistries in the area of dirt pick-up resistance. As a result, on extended exposure, waterborne acrylic coatings are more resistant to chalking and do not yellow as do styrenated products. They are not as vulnerable to damage from ambient moisture as acetate-based systems, and they remain cleaner than both types of non-acrylic systems.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Surface Preparation : Remove dust, dirt, grease, loose particles, flaking paint, wax, fungus, algae from surface using wire brush. Surface should be washed with water and allowed to dry.

Priming : Apply the priming coat using recommended primer or by mixing ZC-SEALCOAT with water in the ratio of 1:2 using brush.

Finishing : Finish the surface by applying 2 coats of ZC-SEALCOAT with an intercoat interval of 4 hours.

Thinning : ZC-SEALCOAT is ready to apply paint, which does not require thinning.

Storage : Keep container closed with a tight lid when not in use. Store in dry place.

TERRACE / ROOF WATERPROOFING BASED ON MEMBRANE COATING SYSTEM

ZC-ROOF GFM is designed to protect surface of the building terrace & roof from water & weathering effect.

It is developed for complex/critical applications where conventional waterproofing/ weatherproofing products cannot be used or applied. In these areas waterproofing products like polymer admixtures, repellent, adhesives, general purpose coating and sealants do not perform effectively for long time. In such applications the product should withstand heat, UV effects, expansion & contraction, gravity settlements, shrinkage and ageing effects. The product should be long lasting & should remain elastomeric and active permanently.

Components of the System :

ZC-Sealcoat :Acrylic based elastomeric high performance coating emulsion. It is single component and ready to use formulation with quick drying properties. It is water repellent with toughness to arrest leakage and seepage of water. It protects the surface of UV radiation. It has got excellent adhesion to substrate and elongation of 200%. It has very good impact strength and withstands extreme temperature.

ZC-ROOF GFM :ZC-ROOF GFM (Glass fibre matt ) is supplied by Owens Corning India Ltd. and it is made of glass fibre chopped strands. It is incorporated in this system because if the treated surface has foot traffic then plastic coating alone may not withstand the ware and tare. On the surface where no foot traffic incurs the ZC-ROOF GFM need not be applied. However it is strongly recommended to use ZC-ROOF GFM for long lasting effectiveness and toughness.

ZC-Elastofalt : ZC-Elastofalt is a thixotropic cold applied polymer modified bituminous coating. It has very high adhesion strength. It protects the surface from water & weathering effects. The elongation is 900% and forms very good film on the substrate. It can be applied on any surface except ceramic tiles & metal.

ZC-Elastoprime:ZC- Elastoprime is a primer or bond coat for surfaces like tiles or china mosaic chips. ZC-Elastofalt or ZC-Sealcoat do not easily adhere to the substrate like tiles or china mosaic chips. On such substrate it is essential to give bond coat of ZC-Elastoprime, which is actually ZC-Elastofalt diluted with water in the ratio 1:1.

Surface Preparation

Surface should be clean & dry. All the surface lying water, mould growths, moss or other vegetation, loose debris etc. should be removed prior to application. Ensure that surface is free from visible dampness, dust. Dirt and other form of contamination should be removed prior to application.

Application :

Application : ZC-CHEMCRYL-295 is used for the production of high- gloss to matt indoor and outdoor coatings for application on plaster, masonry, asbestos cement, concrete, wood, and other substrates. Moreover, ZC-CHEMCRYL-295 is used as an impregnating agent, primer, binder for textured finishes, base material for producing pasty construction adhesives ceramic tile adhesives, and as an additive for hydraulic binders.

Storage :

When kept in tightly closed containers in a cool but frost free place, ZC-CHEMCRYL-295 can be stored for 12 months.

ZCROSS CRACK REPAIR

ZCROSS Crack Repair is highly flexible, asbestos free, high solid filler for major and minor cracks. It is white cement based crack filler specially developed to fill cracks in plastered surfaces. It contains finest grades of cement, sand, selected fillers and best quality polymers to give it unique properties.

The materials should be used only to fill shrinkage cracks and other small cracks in plaster. Zcross saves time and makes labour's work faster. This should not be used to fill structural cracks and construction joints. It is available in powder form.

Specially formulated to protect colours. It works on stain without damaging colours, ideal for PVC carpet, washable printed wall, fireglass, vehicle seat, etc.
