The therapeutic effect of Synvisc is because viscosupplementation, a process whereby the physiological and rheological state of the tissues of the arthritic joint is restored. Viscosupplementation is achieved by treatment with Synvisc, decreases and the pain and discomfort, allowing a greater range of motion of the joint. In vitro studies have shown that Synvisc protects cartilage cells against certain physical and chemical injuries.
