Lupin (Lupinus albus) sometimes called lupini or lupine is an annual legume grown throughout the world both for their seeds used in feed and food. Their high concentrations of protein and energy mean they are recognised internationally as a valuable ingredient in stock feed.
Safflower seeds are achenes (fruits) surrounded by a thick fibrous hull. They are smooth, shiny and angular, about 6-9 mm long, white or brownish and white with grey, brown or black stripes. Whole safflower seeds are mainly used for pet food.
The Pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) commonly known as red gram or toor, tur or Arhar. It is mainly eaten in the form of split pulse as ‘dal’. These hulled, split legumes break down easily when cooked, making them an ideal thickener for curries, soups and stews.
Cowpeas (Vigna unguiculate) are small, kidney-shaped beans in the legume family. Cowpea also called as southern-pea and black-eyed pea is oldest annual legume grown throughout India for fresh or dried seeds and pods are commonly used as human food and also used to feed livestock. It is a rich source of proteins and fibers.
