The NR10 Neapolitan wrapping machine has been developed specifically to wrap small square and rectangular chocolates in foldwrap style, with or without band.

The Neapolitan wrapping machinehas been designed to use either single or double wrappers. The outer paper is taken from a stack of pre-cut labels rather than the more common reel-fed systems.By using pre-printed labels, the chocolate manufacturer can pack small quantities of product, whichis particularly useful for the smaller volume clients such as marketing promotions, corporate gifts etc.

As a result of its modular construction, the Neapolitan wrapping machinecan be quickly and easily size-changed at avery reasonable cost.

The machine has been designed for ease of operation, low running costs and flexibility.

Style of Wrapping

  • A single plain foil or foil/paper wrapper, with or without gluing*
  • An inner foil or foil/paper wrapper plus glued paper outer as a band wrap

The maximum stroke of the piston drive bar is 70mm; the radius of the lever is 234mm which gives a total turning angle of the shaft of 17 degrees.

The body of the depositor has twin jacketed hoppers manufactured entirely in stainless steel. The depositor is a twin rotary valve with horizontal piston design. Each Chocolate piston drive bar assembly is connected via two links to the main shaft and lever. The shaft is driven by positively and directly by an inline planetary gearbox and servo motor. The maximum stroke of the piston drive bar is 70mm; the radius of the lever is 234mm which gives a total turning angle of the shaft of 17 degrees.

Chocolate piston deposit and suction strokes and speeds are adjusted directly from an Allen-Bradley Panel View 600 unit. Piston suck back can be adjusted for speed and stroke or can be eliminated altogether. 96 pistons are mounted on two drive bars (48 on each) and retained by two keep plates. Pistons can be disconnected and removed for cleaning by lifting the keep plates and extracting them through the drive bar. Each drive bar is supported on bearings by two shafts to ensure a horizontal movement throughout the piston stroke.

The depositor head will oscillate from left to right during the Chocolate deposit stroke and then return to its park position. The head is mounted on linear bearings and driven in line by an Allen-Bradley servo motor and planetary gearbox.

Transfer plates are held in place by two bars and secured with cap head screws which allows for quick exchange of plates but ensures complete clamping. Changing from one nozzle layout to another requires a change of transfer plates and selecting a new programme in the Allen-Bradley PanelView 600 unit.

The chocolate chip line depositor main frame is manufactured in mild steel with a food quality powder coat paint finish in white. The drive cover and door are in stainless steel with a satin finish.

The main drive cover is fully interlocked. The rotary valve and paddle in each hopper are protected from the operator by a guard arrangement.

A guillotine machine will cut the product to the desired length. The type of guillotine used can depend on the product, they can come in the form of a mechanical drive guillotine, a servo-driven guillotine, or ultra-sonic guillotine. Sequence of OperationsA rope of confectionery product is fed to the infeed section of the cut and wrap machine. Two pairs of intermittent sizing rollers feed and size the ropeto the desired width and thickness. The presence of the rope is detected by a sensor and the PLC signals the paper feed to engage at thecorrect time, thereby avoiding wrapper wastage.

Paper feeding rollers provide the correct length of paper, which is cut-off by an easily detachable rotary knife. The rope of product is cut tothe desired length by a pair of nipping knives (rotary knife on 750WT) and then pushed with the cut wrapper into the wrapping wheel. Thewrapping is completed as shown in the diagram, depending upon the desired wrapping style.

The 340/342 is a medium speed cut and wrap stickpack machine, which has been designed for strengthand durability as well as ease of operation and low maintenance. The machine sizes, shapes, cuts tolength and wraps toffee, chewy candy, bubble gum or high boiled sugar in end or under fold style. Centre Filling Machine

The F44 centre filler has been developed from the proven F42 centre fillingmachine. The centre filler machine has been continually improvedand now has many new features.The drive is through an Inverter controlled geared motorwith a speed control potentiometer on the operator controlpanel.

The storage hopper is heated either electrically or by hotwater, depending on the product to be used. If electricalheaters are used, these are controlled through asimmerstat, with the temperature control on the operatorcontrol panel.

The centre filler is usually supplied as part of the completehard candy processing line manufactured by A.M.P-Rose, but it can also be incorporated into an existing productionline.

The drive unit, pump assembly and product hopper aremounted to a steel fabricated base fitted with 152 mmdiameter rust-proof castors, which allows the centre fillertobe easily moved when necessary. The product hopper ismade from food-grade stainless steel and painting is tofood finish standards. As an alternative, thecentre fillercanbe supplied as a completely stainless steel unit.

ProductsSuitable for most types of liquid and viscose paste fillingmaterials, for example jams, creams, fondants and chocolatepastes.

OperationA batch of prepared filling mixture is either pumped ormanually loaded in to the stainless steel hopper (approx.50 litre capacity). The heater around the hopper maintainsthe temperature of the mixture at the desired level.

The primary feed from the hopper is by a stainless steelauger, which ensures a smooth positive flow to the pump.The pump unit consists of a stainless steel rotor, whichmaintains a constant seal across the neoprene stator.

The seal is maintained throughout the pump and gives auniform and positive displacement. This provides aconstant non-pulsating flow, which eradicates the problemsnormally associated with a piston pump.

The rate of flow is finely controlled due to the drivemechanism. This can be regulated by the operator byadjusting the speed control knob situated on the controlpanel. The filling is pumped via a flexible food qualityhose and PTFE coated stainless steel lance directly intothe centre of the sugar mass being formed in the adjacentbatch roller.

The A.M.P-Rose 1300 is an automatic and continuous batch cookersuitable for the production of up to1300 Kg/hr (2860 lbs/hr) of high boiled sugar.

The continuous batch cookercan be supplied to handle either a cold slurryof raw materials or a precooked/pre-dissolved sugarsolution.

The continuousbatch cookercomprises of an insulated steel steam pressurevessel, a variable speed product feed pump, product heatingcoil, a vapour extraction chamber and two receiving pans, all of which are mounted on a common base plate.

The syrup and vacuum pumps, motors and vacuumcondensers are mounted to separate baseplates, and arelocated at the side of the machine.

Operation

A variable speed stainless steel product pump feeds the slurry through a heating coil and into avacuum extraction chamber above the vacuum bowl. At this point most of the boiling vapoursare drawn off. The liquid sugar then passes via an adjustable valve to the receiving pan for vacuumtreatment.

The two receiving pans automatically change position as the vacuum is released. For safety thefilled pan cannot be tipped until a catch is lifted.

With the exception of the manual tipping of the filled pans the whole process is automatic oncethe required running conditions have been set.

Linear Transport System

The linear transport system on the XPax multipack flowrap machine is a Beckhoff XTS (eXtended Transport System) which brings together the benefits of rotary and linear systems. XTS is a mechatronic system containing all functions necessary for operation: a modular, fully integrated linear motor with power electronics and position measurement in a single device, a mover as a moved part and a mechanical guide rail. XTS enables individual product transport with a continuous flow of material. Due to the low construction volume, the energy efficiency and the size of a machine can be significantly reduced compared to conventional systems.

XTS adapts itself precisely to the customer requirements: the arbitrary number of movers, the modular path guidance, and the controllability of each individual mover allows precise configuration to suit the product.

The mover is made of a light and solid aluminium alloy. Thanks to their arrangement the rollers allow backlash-free travel on the straights and in the curves. The rollers cause very little running noise and is particularly low-wear without lubrication of the guide rail. The attractive forces of the magnetic plates are largely balanced by the opposed arrangement, so that the rollers and the rail do not have to absorb the comparatively high attractive forces of the magnets.

Up to 4m/s can be achieved with the feed system, without any jerking and still with maximum positioning accuracy. Synchronisation, stopping and starting can be accomplished at any of the stations on the entire path. Added to this is a sensitive response; jerk-free acceleration profiles even allow the transport of open liquids.

There are no sliding contacts or cables to the moved part, it is a purely passive mover, this results in maintenance and spares being kept to a minimum. The friction is also very minimal, which means there is no development of heat in or on the mover, and with the mover weighing less than 350g it is less susceptible to wear and damage.

Flowrap

The multipack flowrap machine is a medium speed full servo driven horizontal wrapping machine suitable for single pack or multipacking with heat or cold seal wrapping materials. The flowrap is fully synchronised to the XTS feed system and incorporates a large user friendly Windows based HMI screen.

The XPax multipack flowrapis suitable for a wide range of products from food to hardware. The versatility of the machine and ease of changing individual product size, number of pieces in the pack, number of product layers, and pack length at the touch of a button means it is particularly suited to users that require regular change of product or pack sizes.

Available in powder coated finish as standard, or fully stainless steel optionally. The machine can be supplied with rotary or box motion end sealing jaws, depending on the application and speed requirements.

Multifunction XPax

The multifunction unit is designed for flowpacking bars into multipacks and loading directly into shelf ready display cases, a two in one flowpack and case packer.

Efficiency

Industry 4.0 is one of the key factors in helping reach peak efficiency within your factory. The XPax system can send a stream of data and analysis in real time, as well as show trends over periods of time. This data can be viewed from the HMI on the machine, or sent to a secure server to be viewed on a tablet/mobile/PC device even if it is not located in the factory. Data exports and reports can be produced to aid weekly or monthly KPI reporting.

The data received can be used to find anomalies within the production process in real time. An example of this in practice can be; the customer has had their XPax machine for 1 week and the data they are receiving is showing a trend where for 20 minutes a day at the same time every day production drops by 50% on the machine. The feedback from the XPax is showing that the product is not being received fast enough from the primary wrapping machine, further study shows that the operators change over at this time every day due to a shift change. There are no other factors from the data showing any other irregularitys as to why production is dropping 50%, from this it can be concluded that the transition process between the operators when changing shifts needs to be improved to increase efficiency during this period.

This is only a small fraction of what can be drawn from the data received from the machine. The more data and reports you can extract the more you can increase efficiency by picking up any irregularities that happen in real time, or inconsistencies that happen over a period of time.

Flexibility

Touch button features and quick release mechanisms make for a fast and flexible way to change the collations of the multipack product. Moving from an 8 x 1 to a 4 x 2 collation, for example, would only require a touch button operation for both the feed system to the flowrapper and the robot loading the multipacks into the shelf ready display cases. A quick release change over part on the Xtrax system feeding to the robot makes for a quick and easy collation change.

Unique Layout Small Footprint

The unique layout of the line has resulted in a very compact system, and due to the design, greater access to the machine has been achieved. The small footprint and easy access provides consideration towards maintenance and a more hygienic working space.

The position of the paper reels and splicer unit will be one of the many characteristics that stands out about the system. It has been turned on its side, it is now vertical, and brought to the operators working level allowing for quicker and easier reel and splicing set ups.

With the position of the reel paper and splicing unit moved away from the flowrapper it results in total access to the folding box, bottom crimp and end crimp.
