Double Reduction Worm Gear Units are constructed using two single reduction worm gear units. The complete gear unit becomes compact and rigid in arrangement for slow-moving machinery. A wide range of ratios from 75:1 to 4900:1 is available. The primary worm gear unit is specially designed to mount integrally on a standard single worm gear unit which forms the secondary stage. These gear units are particularly suitable for high torque slow-speed drives.

Adaptable Speed Reducers are available in a range of six sizes from size 112 to 337 and meet the requirements of all drives up to 7.5 kW. The same basic case is used for each size and can be mounted using detachable feet or, where desired, can be located without feet. A range of standard ratios gives a wide choice of output speeds. The number of mounting arrangements of Adaptable units is almost unlimited, giving the widest possible field of application. Six different positions by changing the footings.

The worm is made of case-hardening alloy steel, carburized, ground, and polished and is integral with the shaft. Bearing journals are accurately ground. The worm wheel is made of centrifugally cast phosphor-bronze rims, shrink fitted, and brazed with C.I. centers. Worms are generated on special-purpose worm milling machines, gas carburized, and ground on automatic work grinders. Worm wheels are hobbed on precision hobbing machines with high accuracy hobs. Each and every wheel is checked to match with the master worms to ensure complete interchangeability. Right-hand threads are provided unless otherwise specified.
