Ashapura has sizeable deposits of Attapulgite in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat. Total proven reserves of Attapulgite are estimated to be in the region of around 8000, 000 tonnes. The deposits consist of needle-shaped bundles of Attapulgite mixed with dolomite. The company has established a plant in Bhavnagar city, which incorporates a number of extruders and tow hammer mills and a production capacity of up to 60, 000 tonnes per annum. Attapulgite is primarily used for Petliter, Oil Well Drilling applications, as also for Liquid Fertilizers and floor absorbents. Currently, the company is involved in the production of Attapulgite Granules for use in domestic and industrial absorbent. Attapulgite has a wide variety of industrial applications.The colloidal grades are thickening, gelling, stabilising and thixotropic agents with applications from drilling fluids to paints to pharmaceuticals.Sorptive grades are used for decolourising, as petlitters, herbicide carriers, floor absorbents and refining aids.
