Because of Extra Ordinary feature of this variety of rice some local farmers and social activists from this area has submitted application to secure Geographical Identification (GI) tag for Wada Kolam rice as it possesses all the qualities aroma and other specification restricted to the geographical limits of Palghar. The GI Tag will help local farmers to get a premium price and it will also cut down the sale of Hybrid rice on the name of Wada Kolam Rice.
