Postforming provides an ideal solution wherever furniture has to be protected from mechanical, thermal or chemical loads. The outstanding benefit: the surface and edge of the panel are protected by a continuous laminate. Traditionally postform countertops were manufactured with a solvent-based contact cement (a highly flammable, volatile organic compound - VOC). However, in today's marketplace PVA adhesives have taken over for reasons of environmental responsibility (no VOC's), safety (non-combustible), economy, and strength of the glue line.
Membrane pressed kitchen shutters are very popular. They are manufactured by using MDF and PVC film suitable for membrane pressing. This is a special film which is printed with the wood grain or any other design which can be elongated without any deformation and this is soft and flexible before it is heated and applied. Once this film is heated and pressed, it becomes very hard and rigid, giving very high scratch resistance and durability. For this process, heat activated polyurethane glue is used.
