There are several species in the botanical family Acacia that produce fragrant flowers. Just two species, Acacia decurrens and A. farnesiana, have uses in perfumery. A. decurrens is appropriately referred to as Mimosa and A. farnesiana as Cassie syn. Sweet Cassie.

Extraction Method: The first step in the production of mimosa absolute involves the solvent extraction of a waxy concrete from the flowers. The waxes are then removed to produce the absolute. Southern India is the traditional regions of production.

Aroma: The aroma is soft, powdery, floral, and sweet with a honeyed fresh cut grass undertone that later reveals a beautiful violet-like heart note.

Acclaimed perfume expert Elena Vosnaki describes Mimosa as “a cloud of sugar-spun innocence…that figures highly in recreations of the elusive note of lilac in perfumery and of lily of the valley fragrances”.
