A Copper Zinc Alloy containing Aluminum and small amount of Arsenic which is added as an inhibitor against dezincification. Inhibited Aluminum brass resists the action of high velocity salt and brackish water and is commonly used for condensor tubes. The outstanding characteristics of aluminum brass is the high resistance to impingement attack. Tubes of this alloy are recommended for use in marine and land power stations where cooling water velocities are high and where inhibited admiralty brass has failed from impingement. Forging Brass UNS C37700

Brass is an alloy mainly consisting of copper and zinc. Brass alloys can be easily shaped and are available in various colors. Brass has high thermal conductivity. UNS C37700 forging brass alloys have good forgeability. They are available in the form of rod.

Naval Brasses are nominally composed of 60% copper, 39.2% zinc and 0.8% tin. As are typical of brass alloys. Naval brasses have good strength and rigidity. By substituting tin for an equal quantity of zinc, a high corrosion resistance to seawater is achieved. The addition of tin also gives the C486 alloys an inherent resistance to dezincification, thereby further inhibiting the impingement by seawater at higher than normal temperatures. The alloys are also noted for its resistance to wear, fatigue, galling, and stress corrosion cracking. 

UNS C37000 (CW607N) Free-Cutting Muntz Metal

C37000 Muntz Metal is a brass formulated for primary forming into wrought products. Cited properties are appropriate for the as-fabricated (no temper or treatment) condition. CW607N is the EN numeric designation for this material. C37000 is the UNS number. Additionally, the EN chemical designation is CuZn38Pb1. The British Standard (BS) designation is CZ129. And the common industry name is 60-39-1. Older literature may refer to this material as ASTM Alloy 6, but this is now discouraged.

 It has a moderately low tensile strength among the wrought brasses in the database.

Cu-Zn alloys containing more than 15% Zn are susceptible to a dealloying process called Dezincification where the selective removal of Zn leaves a relatively porous and weak layer of Cu and Cu oxide. Corrosion of a similar nature continues beneath the primary corrosion layer resulting in gradual replacement of sound brass by weak, porous copper. Unless arrested this corrosion mechanism eventaully penetrates the metal, weakening it structurally and allowing liquids or gasses to leak through this porous mass.

Additions of As (typically 0.02 - 0.25%) to alpha brasses effectively produces high resistance to dezincification at normal operating temperatures. A further addition of Sn (up to 1.5%) further enhances resistance to dezincification and has led to the development of Naval brasses with good resistance in marine environments.

Naval brass is the classic marine, high-strength and corrosion-resistant alloy containing 60 percent copper, .75 percent tin and 39.2 percent zinc. It is widely used in marine construction where strong, corrosive-resistant and hard material is required and is suitable for both salt and fresh water applications. Naval brass is used in propeller shafts, marine hardware, decorative fittings, shafting, propeller shafts and turn buckles. There are also many industrial applications, such as welding rods, condenser plates, structural uses, valve stems, balls, heat exchanger tubes, aircraft turnbuckle barrels, dies, and many more.

C28000 Muntz Metal, also known as 60/40, is copper alloyed with zinc. C280 Muntz is most commonly found in sheet and plate form. Cu Zn40 is considered a duplex alpha-plus-beta brass and has excellent hot-working properties but is less corrosion resistant than C464 Naval Brass. C28000 Muntz is commonly used in architectural applications, including decorative panels, elevators, trim work and signage. Compared to the yellow tones of C260 Cartridge Brass, C280 Muntz has a warmer appearance that readily takes to polishing. Industrial applications for 280 brass include baffles and tubesheets.
