The wire is ordinarily Delivered with an AC surface (coated with the lubricant used during Drawing). An AC surface provides improved friction characteristics during coiling. Heat treatment in the presence of air leads to light oxidation or a discoloring of the surface. A clean metallic surface is provided by annealing in inert atmosphere.
