Recuperators

This equipment is OUR SPECIALITY and has been designed and developed by ENCON for utilisation of waste heat from exhaust flue gases of industrial furnaces. The temperature of flue gases is generally of the order of 600C to 950C. Thus, a considerable amount of heat energy, which may vary between 35 to 42% of the heat input to the furnace, goes to the atmosphere as a total loss. A substantial part of this waste heat can be gainfully recovered by installing an ENCON recuperator, which preheats the combustion air from the escaping flue gases to a temperature of about 400C.

  • Inside the furnace the big size pipes, to be heat-treated, are charged likewise on cantilever supported un-cooled rolls. However the rolls are mounted on a straight axis. The shells of the rolls are likewise of high heat resistant alloys. Individual gear motors and universal shafts drive the rolls.
  • Once the pipe has been positioned at the centre of the furnace it is picked up by a mechanical transfer system from the stationary charging rolls and placed onto the fixed beam system.
  • The moving and fixed beams of both furnaces are equipped with trough-type profiles and are of heat-resistant castings. This design ensures rotation of the pipes with each movement of the walking beam during the transport through the furnace.
  • During furnace idling time or between cycle times the pipes are kept rotating at the spot.
  • The walking beam frame of the furnace is driven by bell crank levers across tracks connected by tension and transverse rods. All rollers are equipped with anti-friction bearings and are connected to a central lubricating system.
  • Hydraulic cylinders are provided for the lifting and lowering. Cylinder synchronisation is achieved through a synchronising shaft.
  • After the pipes have been normalised, they are transferred to likewise cantilevers supposed discharge rolls. These rolls, however, are indirectly water cooled. The roll shells are of high heat resistant alloys.

Heat Treatment Plants

The cores are fabricated from cold rolled strip which undergoes critical deformation after recrystalization and must be annealed after punching. Following annealing, core loss is of an order of 2 to 4 W/kg for a sheet thickness of 0.5 to 0.7mm. Electrical sheet manufactured by this process is superior to dynamo strip not only with regard to cost but also with regard to:

  • saturation
  • A.C. premeability
  • core loss (due to magnetic transformation)
  • ageing
  • lamination factor and
  • the quality of the cutting edges

Appropriate temperature and furnace atmosphere control induces three simultaneous heat-treatment effects needed to fabricate material of the properties required. The hard, fine-grained ferritic structure is transformed into a soft coarse-grained structure according to ASTM series 2 to 3. At the same time, the carbon content of the metal is reduced to less than 0.005% to prevent any effect of residual carbon on the properties of the material ageing. Further, an oxide coating is obtained at a temperature of 550C. Decarburization and plating necessitate permanent contact between the reaction gas and the strip surface. The oil, normally applied prior to punching the laminations, is burnt off in the first heating zone.

Hot Air Generators

Our AIR HEATING SYSTEMS i.e. Hot Air Generators for process application have achieved savings of 10% on the existing designs available in the market. The combustion flue gases exchanges heat at three or more places and efficiency level is as high as 90% when compared with the present conventional Hot air generators, which are operating at around 75% efficiency.

To provide Convective Air Heating to any process, utility or space, ENCON developed "Heat Streams". The Heat Stream is energised by a Mono Block Burner which fires into a combustion chamber and the Flue Gases pass through a Heat Exchanger before leaving the Heat Stream body. Air through circulation fan is blown on the Heat Exchanger and Combustion Chamber. With a quick heat transfer, the entire circulated air can be heated to the desired temperatures.

Heat Gas Elements

M/s. ENCON THERMAL ENGINEERS (P) LTD. have introduced "RAD-HEAT Gas Heating Elements" which are infrared heating systems, closest to heating with the sun.

These elements are effectively replacing all existing electrical, thermic fluid and hot air systems (up to working temperatures of 550C) as they involve the clean and safe qualities of electrical heating with the added advantage of tremendous savings in cost of operation (savings to the tune of 25-70%.)

Tubes of 3"-4" diameter are placed directly in the oven/tank where the heating is required, just like in immersion heaters.
Gas is burnt inside the tubes (no direct exposure to the area to be heated and therefore, no contamination) which get heated and, in turn, emit radiant heat in the form of electromagnetic waves to heat up material in the oven/tank.

The temperature control is thermostatic (just like in electric heaters) and existing circulation fans, etc. can be used. Only radiant tubes are installed additionally. No major changes need to be done in the system. The radiant tubes can be installed in various shapes such as U, W, S, etc. except that the first length should be 1 metre straight horizontally.

The total system generally requires only one day for installation and has a payback period of 6-8 months. The system requires absolutely no maintenance and is based on the fundamental of FIT IT AND FORGET IT.
