The oil is extracted by solvent extraction of the pulp of the avocado fruit and is greenish in color with a faint odor. It is imported from Spain. It is primarily used in cosmetics, hair conditioners and suntan lotions. It is used in the cosmetic industry because it soothes the skin and helps transport active substances into the skin, Avocado Oil has high concentrations of Vitamins A, D and E. It has the highest penetration rate and is comprised mostly of Oleic, Linoleic, and Linolenic acids, as well as Palmitic and Palmitoleic Acids, Lecithin, Phytosterol and Carnotinoids.
It stabilizes oil-in-water emulsions, such as cleansing creams, moisturizers, lipsticks, makeup bases, bath oils, sunscreens and suntan lotions. It is effective as an emollient and carrier oil, treats minor skin irritations and is ranked as the best sunscreen by the Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology when compared to other naturally derived oils. It soothes sensitive skin, especially scaly skin and scalps and acts as a natural bactericidal.
This oil is obtained by cold pressing the seed, and is native to Europe. It is used for skin care, in cosmetics, in food and as a salad oil.
