It can be used on its own or with other components as a safety system. A flame arrester usually has element having aperture that are small enough for entry of gases or vapors. A flame cannot pass through the flame arrester in case the aperture size is lesser than maximum experimental safe gap for gas/vapor. By forcing flames through channels that are too narrow for them to continue, the flame arresters are able to extinguish the flames. The channels can be made of wire mesh or a punched sheet metal plate or have random packing. Different flame arresters can handle different conditions and for that the determination of ignition source is necessary. applications :
