These Quad seals are four lipped seals with a specially developed sealing profile that provides twice the number of sealing surfaces as an O-Ring. The main advantage of this unique four lipped design is that provides lower friction than an O-Ring and due to its square cross section, it resists spiral twist. In static application method application Quad seals are fitted in the assembly where there is no dynamic movement. In the dynamic system quad seal is stretched over the root of a groove with help of an internal groove, whereas for external grooves, these seals are installed in compressed format. X-Rings, also known as Quad-Ring® Seals, can be used in a wide variety of static and dynamic sealing applications. In reciprocating applications, the X-Ring four-lobed design prevents spiral failure and in rotary applications, it prevents the seal from bunching and failing. We supply both Quad-Ring® branded seals as well as similar seals described in various ways like X-Rings and Q-Rings.

 

The four-lobed design provides two sealing surfaces in comparison to a standard O-ring. The double-seal action requires less force to maintain an effective seal. This reduction in force means less friction and improved seal life. X-Ring parting lines are between the lobes, away from the sealing surface, thus eliminating the problems of leakage often resulting from a parting line's irregular surface as found on an O-Ring. The unique design of the X-Ring allows it to be used in narrower grooves and also in standard width O-ring grooves

Our standard Quad-Ring® Brand and O-Ring Seals are available from stock, in compound 366Y, a 70 Shore A nitrile and 514AD, a 70 Shore A fluorocarbon material. Our standard Quad-Ring® Brand and O-Ring seal tooling is designed to the shrinkage characteristics of our popular 366Y, a 70 durometer nitrile formulation. Because every rubber formulation has its own shrinkage characteristics, slight deviations in dimensionswill occur when standard seal tooling is used with materials other than our 366Y. The majority of the cases we encounter involve rubber compounds with a higher shrinkage factor, resulting in seals with undersized cross-sections and undersized inside diameters. This increase in shrinkage is most pronounced when using silicone, fluorosilicone and flourocarbon elastomer materials. Because of the decrease in crosssectional size, groove dimensions may need to decrease to maintain a good seal. Parts produced in materials other than 366Y may not conform to the dimensional specifications as stated in AS-568A.
