Kundan Meena Jewellery

Kundan jewelry is believed to have originated in the royal courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is commonly accepted that Kundan work flourished in the Delhi courts of the Mughals. The perfect example of this fact is Aishwarya Rais jewelry in the movie Jodhaa Akbar. This style was highly prized by Mughal royalty and noblemen, and artisans who specialized in this were much in demand. Over time these artisans also migrated to the province of Rajasthan and became immensely popular there as well. The artisans also spread to neighbouring Gujarat and the rest as they say is history. Today Kundan work from cities such as Jaipur, Bikaner and Nathdwara is very famous and highly prized.

Kundan, meaning 'pure gold', is one of the oldest forms of jewellery making and stands for ethereal beauty, elegance and superb craftsmanship. The art of making Kundan jewelry found great patronage during the Mughal era and some of the world's most mesmerizing pieces of jewelry were created in those times. Manufacturing of Kundan-Meena jewelry is a long, skill-intensive job, requiring great effort and coordinated teamwork to create exquisite pieces. The designs are simple yet aesthetic, consisting of simple geometric patterns to the more elaborate embellishments.

Kundan work is a long and arduous process, involving many different stages and artisans and craftsmen with a variety of skill sets. Each stage needs to be painstakingly taken care of as a mistake at any stage can mar the piece.

While Kundan is less expensive than Polki due to the presence of glass instead of uncut diamonds, it is by no means cheap. Jewelry pieces can start from a minimum of Rs.50, 000. The price is dependent upon the type of stone being used. Obviously pieces that use glass stones will be cheaper than those that employ rubies, emeralds or sapphires.

Thewa Jewellery

Thewa.jpg Thewa is a special art of jewelry making which involves fusing of intricately worked-out sheet gold on molten glass. It evolved in Pratapgarh district, Rajasthan India. Its origin dates back to the Mughal age

Thewa is a traditional art of fusing 23K Gold with multicoloured glass. The glass is treated by a special process to have glittering effects, which in turn highlights the intricate gold work. The whole Thewa piece is hand crafted over a period of one month by skilled artisans. Thewa, an art that pulsates with life, caught seemingly in movement, in motifs used on jewellery, which shows the culture, heritage and tales of romance and valour of Rajasthan with nature and happiness depicting the art of the fine craftsmanship. The process of making thewa work is detailed; time consuming and intricate, taking up to a month to complete each piece. It starts with broken pieces of terracotta, finely ground, mixed with chemicals and oil to produce a thick paste. The paste spread on a wooden base has a 23carat gold sheet of 40gauge thickness set onto the mixture and the free hand design etched on it. Black paint spread over the gold sheet that highlights the design so it becomes clearly visible for further detailed work with fine tools. The craftsman removes the excess gold creating a design often based on the Hindu mythology or Mughal court scenes, historical events or with flora and fauna motifs.

This art form has evolved to a large extent, but the essence and backbone of the basic style remain the same. A lot of European influence is found in the designs and metals of the present times. Rajasthans splendid array of colors, textures, and designs play a large part in defining the basic crux of thewa jewelry and accessories. Vibrant and rich patterns adorned with precious stones, pearls, rubies, and diamonds have kept this form of jewelry popular and much sought after throughout India and far beyond.

We are always a clients manufacturer as we are always ready to support the client any kind of requirements.
