Due to decreasing box sizes, many designers are now placing the transceiver cage on the board edge where the outside cable assembly can be mated directly into the device. Because it can be exposed outdoors, the interconnect systems integrity can be vulnerable unless ruggedized. Also, the system needs to be flexible enough to accommodate many active device options (There is a broad selection in the market.) and still maintain connectivity integrity. Molex Optical Industrial Connectors and Adapters follow industry standards (ODVA compliant) to ensure compatibility with other compliant connector systems. These connectors are sealed at both the panel cut-out and plug-to-adapter interface. Occasionally, end users find non-ODVA compliant devices and connectors difficult to mate, causing costly delays and inconvenience in the field. Molex Optical Industrial LC Connectors provide an internal float along the x, y and z axes, ensuring easy connection to virtually any SFP active device. Standard telecom-grade fiber optic connectors are not suitable for harsh-environment industrial and military applications. For example, industrial and military applications demand a temperature range that is broader than telecom requirements. And telecom-grade connectors are not sealed to keep out dust and moisture. Molex Optical Connector Housings are NEMA 6P and IP67 rated to keep out dust and moisture. The metal bodies of our LC connectors have been tested to GR-486 and saltfog exposure, ensuring that they can withstand extreme environments. Additionally, Molex Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters have a broad temperature range (-40 to +85C).
