Compressed air is discharged from air compressor is hot. Compressed at such temperatures comprise of large quantities of water in the form of vapour. As the compressed air cools down, water vapour starts condensing in the form of liquid. For instance, if aftercooler with moisture separators is not using a 200 scfm compressor which is operating at 100 psig releases 45 gallons of water into compressed air system every day.Installing moisture separator at the discharge of aftercoolers helps in removing majority of the solids and moisture from the compressed air. Making use of centrifugal force, solids as well as moisture gathers at the bottom of the moisture separator. Usually, it is suggested to make use of automatic drain for removing solids and moisture.
