Produced by polishing the hulled barley grain. This pearling process is minimal (unlike most commercially available pearled barley), so much of the nutrient value of whole barley is retained. Has a milder flavour than barley grain. Must be refrigerated or frozen to retain freshness. USES: Add to soups and casseroles (may need to pre-cook). Cook together with rice or as a rice substitute or Pre-cook and add to baked goods. To make a porridge. Add to soups (traditionally or vegetable) and casseroles and cook and serve as a simple side dish or pilaf.
