Application :

  • Stainless steels resistance to corrosion and staining, low maintenance and familiarlustremake it an ideal material for many applications. There are over 150 grades of stainless steel, of which fifteen are most commonly used.
  • The alloy ismilledinto coils, sheets, plates, bars, wire, and tubing to be used incookware, cutlery, household hardware, surgical instruments, major appliances, industrial equipment (for example, insugar refineries) and as an automotive and aerospace structural alloy and construction material in large buildings.
  • Storage tanks and tankers used to transportorange juiceand other food are often made of stainless steel, because of its corrosion resistance. This also influences its use in commercial kitchens and food processing plants, as it can be steam-cleaned andsterilizedand does not need paint or other surface finishes.
  • Stainless steel is used for jewelry and watches with 316L being the type commonly used for such applications. It can be re-finished by any jeweler and will not oxidize or turn black. Some firearms incorporate stainless steel components as an alternative tobluedorparkerizedsteel.
  • Somehandgunmodels, such as theSmith & Wesson Model 60and the ColtM1911 pistol, can be made entirely from stainless steel. This gives a high-luster finish similar in appearance to nickel plating.
  • Unlike plating, the finish is not subject to flaking, peeling, wear-off from rubbing (as when repeatedly removed from a holster), or rust when scratched.Someautomotive manufacturersuse stainless steel as decorative highlights in their vehicles.

Duplex Stainless Steels

We are a famous exporter and supplier of Duplex Stainless Steels based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. These steels have a high strength and a greater resistance to corrosion particularly stress corrosion and cracking. We offer this product in different qualities or grades. These steels are used in various processing plants, hot water tanks and much more. Our wholesale prices on this product are unbeatable.

Details :Duplex stainless steels are becoming more common. They are being offered by all the major stainless steel mills for a number of reasons

  • Higher strength leading to weight saving
  • Greater corrosion resistance particularly stress corrosion cracking
  • Better price stability
  • Lower price
  • There is a conference on the subject of duplex every 2-3 years where dozens of highly technical papers are presented. There is a lot of marketing activity surrounding these grades. New grades are being announced frequently.
  • Yet, even with all this interest, the best estimates for global market share for duplex are between 1 and 3%.The purpose of this article is to provide a straightforward guide to this steel type.

Grades :

  • Duplex Grades
  • Duplex 31803
  • Super duplex s32750
  • Super duplex s32760
  • Lean duplex s32304
  • 6 molu s31254
  • Zeron 100.

Principle of Duplex Stainless Steels :

  • The idea of duplex stainless steels dates back to the 1920s with the first cast being made at Avesta in Sweden in 1930. However, it is only in the last 30 years that duplex steels have begun to “take off” in a significant way.
  • This is mainly due to advances in steelmaking techniques particularly with respect to control of nitrogen content.
  • The standard austenitic steels like 304 (1.4301) and ferritic steels like 430 are relatively easy to make and to fabricate. As their names imply, they consist mainly of one phase, austenite or ferrite.
  • Although these types are fine for a wide range of application.

Technical Weaknesses

  • Austenitic – low strength (200 MPa 0.2% PS in solution annealed condition), low resistance to stress corrosion cracking
  • Ferritic – low strength (a bit higher than austenitic, 250 MPa 0.2% PS), poor weldability in thick sections, poor low temperature toughness
  • In addition, the high nickel content of the austenitic types leads to price volatility which is unwelcome to many end users.
  • The basic idea of duplex is to produce a chemical composition that leads to an approximately equal mixture of ferrite and austenite. This balance of phases provides the following:
  • Higher strength – The range of 0.2% PS for the current duplex grades is from 400 – 550 MPa. This can lead to reduced section thicknesses and therefore to reduced weight. This advantage is particularly significant for applications such as
    • Pressure Vessels and Storage Tanks
    • Structural Applications e.g. bridges
  • Good weldability in thick sections – Not as straightforward as austenitics but much better than ferritics.
  • Good toughness – Much better than ferritics particularly at low temperature, typically down to minus 50 deg C, stretching to minus 80 deg C.
  • Resistance to stress corrosion cracking – Standard austenitic steels are particularly prone to this type of corrosion. The kind of applications where this advantage is important include
    • Hot water tanks
    • Brewing tanks
    • Process plant
    • Swimming pool structures

Characteristics

  • Twice design strength of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels
  • Wide range of corrosion resistance to match application
  • Good toughness down to minus 80 deg C but not genuine cryogenic applications
  • Particular resistance to stress corrosion cracking
  • Weldable with care in thick sections
  • More difficult to form and machine than austenitics
  • Restricted to 300 deg C maximum .

Monel 400

We are an essential exporter and supplier of Monel 400 based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Monel 400 that we offer has a good resistance to stress corrosion and to neutral and alkaline salts. These sheets are widely used in marine engineering, in gasoline and freshwater tanks, crude petroleum stills and in industrial heat exchangers. This product has good mechanical properties even in extreme temperatures.

Details :

  • Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy (about 67% Ni – 23% Cu) that is resistant to sea water and steam at high temperatures as well as to salt and caustic solutions.
  • Alloy 400 is a solid solution alloy that can only be hardened by cold working. This nickel alloy exhibits characteristics like good corrosion resistance, good weldability and high strength.
  • A low corrosion rate in rapidly flowing brackish or seawater combined with excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in most freshwaters, and its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions led to its wide use in marine applications and other non-oxidizing chloride solutions.
  • This nickel alloy is particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated. As would be expected from its high copper content, alloy 400 is rapidly attacked by nitric acid and ammonia systems.
  • Monel 400 has great mechanical properties at subzero temperatures, can be used in temperatures up to 1000° F, and its melting point is 2370-2460° F. However, alloy 400 is low in strength in the annealed condition so, a variety of tempers may be used to increase the strength.

In what forms is Monel 400 Available at Om Steel?

  • Sheet
  • Plate
  • Bar
  • Pipe & Tube (welded & seamless)
  • Fittings (i.e. flanges, slip-ons, blinds, weld-necks, lapjoints, long welding necks, socket welds, elbows, tees, stub-ends, returns, caps, crosses, reducers, and pipe nipples)
  • Wire

Characteristics

  • Resistant to seawater and steam at high temperatures
  • Excellent resistance to rapidly flowing brackish water or seawater
  • Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking in most freshwaters
  • Particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated
  • Offers some resistance to hydrochloric and sulfuric acids at modest temperatures and concentrations, but is seldom the material of choice for these acids
  • Excellent resistance to neutral and alkaline salt
  • Resistance to chloride induced stress corrosion cracking
  • Good mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to 1020° F
  • High resistance to alkalis

Corrosion Resistant Monel 400

  • Alloy 400 is virtually immune to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking in typical environments. Generally, its corrosion resistance is very good in reducing environments, but poor in oxidizing conditions. It is not useful in oxidizing acids, such as nitric acid and nitrous. Nevertheless, it is resistant to most alkalis, salts, waters, food products, organic substances and atmospheric conditions at normal and elevated temperatures.
  • This nickel alloy is attacked in sulfur-bearing gases above approximately 700° F and molten sulfur attacks the alloy at temperatures over approximately 500° F. Monel 400 offers about the same corrosion resistance as nickel but with higher maximum working pressures and temperatures and at a lower cost due to its superior ability to be machined.

Applications

  • Marine engineering
  • Chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment
  • Gasoline and freshwater tanks
  • Crude petroleum stills
  • De-aerating heaters
  • Boiler feed water heaters and other heat exchangers
  • Valves, pumps, shafts, fittings, and fasteners
