Achromatic Lenses

An Achromatic Lens or Achromat is a Lens that is designed to limit the effects of chromatic and spherical aberration. Achromatic Lenses are corrected to bring two wavelengths (typically red and blue) into focus in the same plane

The most common type of Achromat is the Achromatic doublet, which is composed of two individual lenses made from glasses with different amounts of dispersion. Typically, one element is a negative (concave) element made out of flint glass such as F2, which has relatively high dispersion, and the other is a positive (convex) element made of crown glass such as BK7, which has lower dispersion.

They deliver high performance when the application involves small fields of view, typically up to 6 degrees. Their image quality surpasses that of singlets

Typical applications where achromatic doublet lenses are used are imaging, analyzers, fiber-optic lighting, laser range finders endoscopes and borescopes.

Ball Lens

Rod Lenses are polished on the circumference and ground on both ends. Optical performance is similar to a cylinder lens. Collimated light passing through the diameter of the rod will be focused into a line. These components are used in a variety of laser and imaging applications. Rod lenses can also be polished on both ends and used as light pipe homogenizing rods.

Ball Lenses are great optical components for improving signal coupling between fibers, emitters, and detectors. They are also used in endoscopy, bar code scanning, ball pre-forms for aspheric lenses, and sensor applications. Ball lenses are manufactured from a single substrate of glass and can focus or collimate light, depending upon the geometry of the input source.

Plano-Convex (PCX) Lenses (Silicon): Silicon is a popular NIR material for the 1.2 to 7m region due to its low cost and low density. Because of its low density (half that of Germanium or Zinc Selenide), Silicon is ideal for weight-sensitive applications, especially those in the 3 -5m region. Density is 2.33 gcm3 and Knoop Hardness is 1150, making it harder and less brittle than Germanium.
