EpiPen (Adrenaline) Auto-Injector 0.3 mg - Use & Benefits
This yellow box is an EpiPen 0.3 mg by Mylan. It’s a single-dose emergency device.
What it’s used for
EpiPen is first-line emergency treatment for anaphylaxis — a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction. Common triggers:
Trigger Examples
Foods Peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, milk, eggs
Insect stings Bee, wasp, hornet
Medicines Penicillin, NSAIDs, vaccines
Other Latex, exercise, unknown causes
How it works
Adrenaline/epinephrine rapidly reverses anaphylaxis by:
1. Opening airways - Relaxes bronchial muscles so you can breathe
2. Raising blood pressure - Constricts blood vessels to counter shock
3. Reducing swelling - Decreases hives, throat/tongue swelling
4. Stimulating the heart - Helps maintain circulation
Who uses 0.3 mg
This dose is for adults and children ≥30 kg (66 lbs). Kids 15-30 kg use EpiPen Jr 0.15 mg.
Key points for use
1. When: At first signs of anaphylaxis — trouble breathing, throat swelling, severe hives, dizziness, rapid pulse, feeling of doom. Don’t wait.
2. Where: Inject into the outer thigh muscle. Can go through clothing.
3. After: Call emergency services immediately — 112 or 108 in India. You still need hospital monitoring even if you feel better. Effects wear off in 10-20 min and symptoms can return.
Important safety notes
-Emergency only: Not for mild allergies. Antihistamines like cetirizine don’t replace it.
-Storage: 20°C to 25°C. Don’t refrigerate or leave in hot cars. Check expiry date.
-Training: Get proper demo from a doctor/pharmacist. Practice with a trainer pen.
