Paraformaldehyde 91% (PFA) is the smallest polyoxymethelyne, it is a polymerization of the product of formaldehyde with a typical degree of 8-10 units of polymerization, it has a slight odor of formaldehyde due to decomposition. It is a poly-acetal. It is used as a disinfectant, fumigant, fungicide and fixative. Longer key length polyoxymethlyne is used as thermoplastic and is commonly known as polyoxymethylene plastic. It was used in the past as discredited sargenti method for Root Canal Treatment.
