Di Ethylene Glycol (DEG) is an organic compound with the chemical formula (HOCH2CH2)2O. It is colorless, odorless, poisonous and hygroscopic liquid with a sweetish taste. It is miscible with water, alcohol, acetone, ether and ethylene glycol. DEG is used as a solvent and it can be a contaminant in consumer products causing poisoning epidemics since the early 20th century. It is used for the manufacture of unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethanes and plasticizers. It is a solvent for nitrocellulose, resins, dyes, oils and other organic compounds and humectants for tobacco, cork and printing ink.
