The machine design is such that it can be used at any location and in any axis, be it vertical, horizontal or inclined. The machine is light enough to ensure portability but rugged enough to take upto 5 mm depth of cut easily.
The machine primarily consists of Boring Bar, Drive Unit, Support Plates and Support Brackets. The support plates are mounted with the help of support brackets on the job. This can be done by bolting or tack welding, as desired. The boring bar is now passed through the support plate bearings. The boring bar is then aligned to the geometrical references provided by moving the support plate in X-Y Axis. Once the alignment is complete, all bolts are fastened and the Drive Unit is mounted.
After checking the alignment once again, the tool can be mounted straight on the slots of the boring bar or a tool holder can be clamped on it. The machining can now commence. The total setup time generally is around 1 hour and the machining time depends upon the bore diameter and thickness.
Pelicans I.D. Clamped Flange Facing Machine is a portable large diameter flange facer with a capacity to currently machine 1.5 metres to 12 metres flange diameter. The capacity can be altered to machine flanges from 1 metre to 28 metres in diameter.
As this machine was predominantly designed and made to machine slew bearing support flanges of large diameters, like the ones in Bucket Wheel Excavators and other large slewing structures, its primary objective is to produce a flat circular surface. It has been able to achieve flatness accuracies as much as 0.06 mm (60 microns) on the entire flange diameter of 5 meters.
Being equipped with a state of the art automation system and a host of high accuracy sensors enables it to deliver unmatched machining capabilities. The real time display of data of the machine performance and onboard computers help maintain the desired level of accuracy. The same sensors and computers prevent any untoward incidents by sounding alarms and also an auto stop function.
Despite the fact this machine is used to machine large and very large diameter flanges, in order to be portable and easy to use, it is designed to be transported in parts and then assembled on site. This lets us machine any job at any location. The machine can be set true to the level of earth or to the level of the job to be machined.
With appreciably higher material removal rates and being very easy to setup, the average total time taken from setup to finish machining is generally 30 hours or lesser.
With this machine any portion along the axis of the shaft can be machined. The design is a split frame machine which can be mounted anywhere on the shaft and in any orientation required, be it Horizontal, Vertical or Inclined.
The machine is set up on the existing shaft itself and can take reference of the same shaft to maintain the existing geometry or can be set to external references too. The machine has been used for new shafts to be machined on final location and also for repairing worn out shafts after weld builtup. Grinding attachments and a Keyway Milling attachment also can be used with this machine.
The machine is a split frame ring, also called as clamshell design. This enables it to be mounted at any point along the axis of the pipe. It can be mounted on pipes with a horizontal, vertical or inclined axis.
It uses a standard single point tool for the cutting and Beveling. The tool can be tilted to any angle to produce the required bevelled edge angle. The machine is also capable of spot facing and edge preparations of the pipes for welding or joining of pipes. There are various models of this machine for machining various sizes of pipes and for machining Metal or F.R.P. Pipes.
