Terminalia Chebula or Myrobalam Nuts. Myrobalam Nuts are a forest grown crop. It is collected from tropical Indian forests. It is used in Ayurvedic medicinal purposes and leather tannings. Myrobalam Nut is also used as mud thickener in oil drilling companies. The powder of myrobalam is pyrogallol or hydrolysable type tanning material of vegetable origin, which is high in acidity and less in salt. This is mainly used in retaining of leather to produce good filling and soft leathers. Imparts light color, fullness, plumpness and firmness to leather. This powder does not oxidize when exposed to sunlight and gives a protective coating to increase the color fastness of the condensed tannins.
