Hydraulic Powered Electric Actuator

The PG-EG Actuator converts a given electrical input signal into a proportional hydraulic output shaft position, to control engine fuel flow. The actuator provides the muscle for Woodward analog and digital controls. The PG-EG Actuator is available with several servo options, giving a full range of work and torque output (see table on next page). All current PG governor bases (designed to exactly fit any drive designed for a PGE locomotive governor, PGA or PGG governor) can be used with the PG-EG. The proven PG pump and accumulator is reversible or may be set for one-way rotation (advised for generator applications). The actuator uses standard PG output s hafts and power levers. The PG-EG actuator will adapt to most engines being built today and is available for retrofit to most existing engines, in many cases with out changes to linkage drive or other configurations. Maintenance procedures are similar to those needed with a PG governor. The actuator's electric-to-hydraulic trans ducer uses a Woodward-built torque motor which converts the 0200 mA control signal to a given output position. This actuator is available for use with ei ther direct- or reverse-acting electronic controls. Direct-acting actuators will cause a shutdown if the electrical current to the actuator is lost or interrupted. Direct- and reverse-acting units use the same hardware and can be re-calibrated from one into the other. A 140 m wire-mesh filter is accessible from the outside of the PG-EG. The filter protects the small orifice in the pilot valve, which is an integral part of the electric actuator.

VariStroke Linear Electro-Hydraulic Actuators

The patented dirt tolerant and self-cleaning technology of Woodward's VariStroke actuators ensure greater overall reliability of your steam turbine. The VariStroke line of linear electro-hydraulic valve actuators operate mechanical-drive or generator-drive steam turbines. These linear actuators utilize a low-pressure, hydraulic oil source (typically turbine lube oil) to provide output shaft force. Their superb accuracy and resolution make them ideal for steam valve control and related turbine speed and load control, where turbine up-time and availability is essential. The VariStroke line is configurable via a simple user-friendly, computer-based PC service tool, allowing users to easily configure, calibrate, and adjust all internal functions and response settings. Its integrated driver includes a 4-20 mA output channel to indicate output shaft (control valve) position, as well as unit alarm and shutdown relay outputs for use as unit health and status indications. The 4-20 mA demand inputs and dual-redundant shaft position sensors allow it to continue to operate even with demand input or feedback sensor failures, ensuring extended run-times between forced outages and on-line system repair. The total installed cost for this fully-integrated actuator is low because it is completely assembled and tested at the factory, greatly reducing OEM and end-user fabrication, testing, and site assembly time. In retrofit applications, the VariStroke actuator can be used to directly replace the existing servo system. This saves costly repairs to existing and aging servos, eliminates the difficulty of obtaining spare parts for obsolete equipment, and reduces calibration time and difficulty.

Electric Actuator For Steam Turbines

  • Input Power— 18-32 Vdc, 20 A, to driver
Woodwards EML100 electric actuator provides high accuracy, closed loop position control for steam and gas turbine valves. The actuator positions a steam or fuel valve that requires a linear operator with a stroke length between 13 and 38 mm (0.5 and 1.5 inches). This linear electric actuator is driven by an off-actuator driver Woodwards EMLQ Digital Driver. Electric actuators have many advantages over hydraulic and pneumatic actuators when applied on steam turbine control valves. Electric actuators have the same or better accuracy and response times as hydraulic or pneumatic actuators without the need for expensive piping or filtering systems.

Small Engine Control Linear Actuators

DYNA 2000 and DYNA 2500 linear actuators provide precise positioning with a minimal number of moving parts. Many of the moving parts normally associated with electric actuators are eliminated, prolonging the mean time between failure. These DYNA actuators are suitable for installation on diesel, gasoline, or natural gas engines with fuel system force requirements of less than 13 pounds (58 N) of force. When paired with a Woodward controller, precise isochronous speed control of 5 to 30 HP engines (DYNA 2000) and 5 to 60 HP engines (DYNA 2500) is achieved. Both actuators are easy to install by mounting near the fuel system and direct connecting to the fuel control rod or lever. In most installations, the normal rotary-to-rotary connection is eliminated, resulting in a more trouble-free and accurate control system.
