Storage Stability

POPFIL RHN Synthetic resin tanning agent for chrome leather based on aliphatic condensation products.

PropertiesPopfil RHN is light fast and gives level shades. Together with white tanning agents, it produces a still higher degree of whiteness. Popfil RHN is designed for retannage of all types of leathers to impart fullness, tightness and a fine break to chrome and semi-chrome tanned leathers. Even small amount of Popfil RHN will fill the leather without impairing the fineness of grain and will largely retain the typical characteristics of chrome leather. Popfil RHN is susceptible to acid and may precipitate at a pH below 3.8; and not readily miscible with cationic products ( e.g. mineral tanning agents ). Popfil RHN is perfectly compatible with synthetic and vegetable tanning agents, sulphited fat liquor, anionic dyes and other anionic products, if the pH does not lie below the specified limit.

ApplicationPopfil RHN is used for retanning chrome leather to improve its fullness and tightness of grain without causing formation of a coarser grain. A dosage of 3-5% is recommended. As Popfil RHN is sensitive to acid, the leather must be neutralised throughout the cross section before its application. Popfil RHN tightens the fibre structure of the leather, thereby producing leathers with improved buffability characteristics. Thus the product can be used in the manufacture of nubucks, suedes and corrected gram leathers. Due to its molecular weight, it has a selective filling action on loose structures of the skin. The product retains the full chrome character without effecting the softness and therefore suitable for very soft type of leathers also.

A versatile synthetic replacement tanning agent (concentrate sulphone based formaldehyde free ) for the retannage of chrome leather and for vegetable tannage. (CONCENTRATE OF DIHYDROXY DIPHENYL SULPHONE CONDENSATE)

Properties

• POPTAN DHS is a pale, cream coloured, spray dried powder, readily soluble in water.
• POPTAN DHS is a light fast synthetic tanning agent for the use of both chrome and vegetable tanning. It is exceptionally stable to ultraviolet light, and in this respect it surpasses most other phenolic syntans.
• POPTAN DHS when used as a retannage on chrome leather, helps in getting smooth and tight grain with noticeably improved filling of the flanks. As an additive to vegetable and/or resin retannage POPTAN DHS improves the distribution of retanning agents in the leather cross section.
• POPTAN DHS shortens the vegetable tanning time of pickle stock. By pretanning with it, vegetable tannins can be added at a much faster rate than normal to produce fully tanned leather with fine and close grain pattern.
• POPTAN DHS imparts a high degree of suppleness and improves the tightness of the grain. It has a heavy bleaching effect when used on its own on chrome leathers. The good dispersing effect of POPTAN DHS results in deeper and more uniform penetration of other retanning agents. It has a medium strong filling effect.

POPTAN OS is a synthetic replacement tanning agent. It can be used for both self tannage and combination tannage in conjuction with vegetable tannins. It is also suitable for retanning chrome leather and for getting a very pale coloured light fast tannage.

• POPTAN OS is a pale, yellowish powder, readly soluble in water.
• POPTAN OS is a good light fast replacement syntan with high filling properties. It is ideal for production of crust leathers.
• POPTAN OS possesses dispersing properties and it is very useful in vegetable tanning of goat skin, buffalo and cow sides providing the leathers better colour, fullness and smooth grain. In rapid tanning process, addition of POPTAN DI produces leather with tight grain and mellow handle. The colour of the leather is lightened considerably. This beneficial effect becomes particularly pronounced in the elimination of the reddish tinge which is usually caused by the use of such tannins as quebrecho, mimosa or mangrove extracts.

Synthetic replacement tanning agent. POPTIN ANF is mainly used for retanning chrome and semichrome leather that is to be dyed in full, brilliant shades. It is amphoteric in nature.

Properties

• POPTAN ANF is a pale, yellowish powder, readily soluble in water. It is compatible with chrome tanning agents and combination tanning agents containing chrome and with anionic dyes and auxiliaries.
• POPTAN ANF is compatible with synthetic tanning agents and disperses vegetable tannins as well.
• POPTAN ANF imparts medium fullness and good softness to the leather. The shade of the retanned leather has good light fastness, and it is clear and brilliant and bleached to a substantially less extent than by a retannage with conventional synthetic tanning agents.
• POPTAN ANF promotes firmness of the grain, retans the leather under rather acid conditions and thus protects the grain while maintaining a mellow handle.
• POPTAN ANF penetrates through the leather quickly and deeply and thus assists the penetration and uniform distribution of other materials such as synthetic, vegetable and resin tanning agents when used together.
• POPTAN ANF favours uniform distribution of the fat liquoring agents and thus helps to impart good softness with minimum quantity of fatliquor.

Applications

• POPTAN ANF is a versatile tanning and retanning agent for chrome as well as vegetable tanned leather.
• POPTAN ANF is especially recommended for automotive upholstery, furniture upholstery and clothing leathers. Recommended levels of use are 4-6%.
• In combination retannages with vegetable and resin tanning agents to produce a full round leather 2-4% of Poptan ANF is recommended.
• As a pretannage 3-5% of Poptan ANF is recommended to assist with penetration of other tanning agents.

StoragePresents no problem under normal storage conditions and has an indefinite shelf life. Some caking may occur if the product is stored in warm, daxnp conditions, but this does not affect the efficiency of the product.

Applications

• POPMAG is very fine, alkaline powder which is sparingly soluble in acid solutions. It offers a very safe method for controlling the basicity of chrome tannage.
• POPTMAG is added soon after chrome gets penetrated. It is to be added as powder in one feed. It ensures obtaining uniform tannage, colour and pH. An addition of 0.5-0.6% Poptan BFN on pelt weight is sufficient for normal pickle-chrome tan process.

Advantages

• POPMAG produces a gradual increase in pH without the initial rapid rise normally encountered with common alkalis used for basification. Its use leads to even chrome distribution throughout the cross-section of the leather.
• POPMAG gives efficient chrome exhaust and ensures brighter colour and uniformity from batch to batch.
• POPMAG reacts with sulphuric acid to give only soluble salts. Alkalis based on calcium when used lead to formation of insoluble calcium sulphate in the pelt, which has a detrimental effect on the dyeing and can result in white stains on dyed leather.
• POPMAG ensures uniform pH level throughout the cross section of leather because of the addition of masking agents and requires no extra time or quantity in case of extra thick guage leather for deriving the required pH level and boil test.

POPBATE-AC is an enzymatic bating agent which works in acidic range. POPBATE-AC is a versatile bating agent based on proteolytic enzymes for all types of leather. This is an optimal blend of proteolytic enzymes from animal and microbial sources. The tailor made formulation has lipolytic side activity which will help in removing the fatty tissues adhering to the skin and thus facilitating an optimum bating action.

Advantages

• POPBATE AC is a bating agent for use between pH 3.5-4.5. It serves for bating of limed and pickled pelts as well as enzymatic slackening of wet blues and vegetable synthetic crust leather. Use of POPBATE-AC yields following effects :
• Preserves the, liide substance and gives the leather a very tight grain.
• Maintains substance even in areas such as flanks.
• Improves the feel, the uniformity of colour and firmness of grain.
• Good scud loosening, smooth grain strongly fallen pelts. Auxiliary agents may be used for further improvements in scud loosening.

ApplicationIt is to be dosed at 0.4-0.8% of the pelt weight. POPBATE-AC shows maximum activity at pH between of 3.5-4.5. The pH should be constantly maintained during bating and formic acid diluted 1:10 should be added if the pH rises above 4.5

POPTAN CSN is a combination of basic chromium salts and a lightfast white tanning agent. The product can be used as selftanning agent or as pretanning and retanning agent in vegetable and chrome tannage. It imparts to the leather a particularly soft handle and a tight grain.

Properties

• Poptan CSN is primarily used for the production of leathers with
• mellowness and supple grain without altering the chrome. leather character.
• The use of Poptan CSN retains fineness and tightness of grain and prepares the leather for level dyeing.
• It is preferable to use Poptan CSN in powder form, 4-8% Poptan CSN may be used depending on the type of leather.
• Poptan CSN is recommended for neutralizing and retanning of chrome leathers. It also has complex forming and buffering properties.

Applications

• For the tannage of low chrome wet blue to improve uptake, 1%-2% is recommended.
• For the retannage of chromed stock, sides, skins or splits for clothing and gloving, 2%-6% is recommended.
• When used as retanning agent for E.I. tanned goat skins, it imparts an extremely soft handle and fills up the leather without unduly loading the gain.
• When used alone it yields white leathers of good fullness and highly resilient handle.

An anionic neutral syntan based on nitrogen containing resin (melamine syntan) for retannage of all types of chrome leathers.

Properties

• POPTAN FR6 is a spray dried, pale brown , free flowing anionic neutral syntan based on nitrogen containing resin ( melamine syntan)
• POPTAN FR6 precipitates under acid conditions and this precipitate, in combination with colloidal and other softening agents, has a selective filling action which improves the more open structured areas of the leather .
• POPTAN FR6 when used as a Retannage for neutralized chrome stock results in a leather with a full fell, a tight flexible grain and uniform softness .

Advantages

• A tight and flat grain ideally suited to level dyeing and fatliquoring.
• Improved richness and fullness which it is required most.
• Excellent surface for past drying and subsequent buffing .
• Produces uniformly soft leather without additional fatliquoring .

Applications

• For the production of softy full grain , corrected grain upper leather and nubuck , 2-5% is recommended .
• For the mild, filling retannage of all types of chrome leather, where fullness and suppleness are desired, 2-5% is recommended .
