8-Hydroxyquinoline is a white to light yellow or light beige liquid that is an intermediate in the halogenated quinoline class of anti-amoebic drugs, including quinolizidine, chloroiodoquinoline, and diiodoquinoline. This kind of drug exerts anti-amoebic effect by inhibiting intestinal commensal bacteria, which is effective for amoebic dysentery and has no effect on extra-intestinal amoebic protozoa.
