This relining buddha does not give the viewer the sense of the buddha in a his final stages. Instead he looks to be lounging in a restful position, perhaps discoursing with his devotees on the dharma. his face has that caring, compassionate look that is typical of any quality buddha sculpture. His long earlobes are stretched, a testament to the buddha’s childhood as a rich prince who wore heavy golden earrings. His hands and feet are slender, each carved with all the small details you would expect to see.
