    is a member of Beryl family. It is a stone that is believed to keep the sailors safe in the sea and becomes even more powerful when immersed in water, it calms the waves. Aquamarine is the birthstone for March and considered as the treasure of mermaids. Aquamarine is of aqua (sea blue) color, but the darker color of the stone is considerably more valuable. If you are more attracted towards the greenish shade of the stone, you probably would have to spend less to owe it as compared to the blue colored stone. Some of the highest quality specimens of brilliant blue "Santa Maria" aquamarine come from the Santa Maria de Itabira Mine. Aquamarine from africa that has the same intense blue color is called ">Santa Maria Afrique". The stone posses a hardness of 7.5 and thus considered as a durable gem for daily wear. They are available in mm sizes and far sizes in shape of Round, Oval, Pear, Heart, Marquies, Trillion, Buggette, Square, Octogun, Cushion, Briolette, Beads, Checker Boards, Buff Tops, Cabs and in many Fancy Shapes. It cleans up by just using a scrub or brush on mostly backside of the stone where dirt is collected.
