The peanut leaves are opposite, pinnate with four leaflets (two opposite pairs; no terminal leaflet); each leaflet is 1 to 7 cm long and 1 to 3 cm across. The flowers are a typical pea flower in shape, 2 to 4 cm across, yellow with reddish veining.  Peanuts, which are high in protein and vitamin B and E, as well as magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus, are eaten raw or boiled and roasted (and often salted) as a snack.
