Backup Rings

When a system is operating under high pressure, there is a greater performance demand on the O-Ring. When subjected to pressure, the O-Ring rubber tends to flow into the clearance gaps between the adjacent parts of the machine. At a lower pressure, the extrusion effect does not hamper the performance, however at a higher pressure this can damage the O-Rings.
Thus, in order to avoid permanent damage to the O-Rings at high pressures, special precautions such as using an appropriate Back-up Ring need to be taken.
