Barium carbonate (BaCO3), also known as witherite, is a chemical compound used in the Caustic Soda manufacture, ceramics and glass manufacture. Barium carbonate is made commercially from barium sulphide either by treatment with sodium carbonate at 60 to °C (soda ash method) or by passing carbon dioxide at 40 to 90 °C.
Barium Carbonate is white crystalline material, Specific gravity 4.286 GMcm3, odourless, melting point 8110C, boiling point 14500 C, slightly soluble in water, decomposes in acid and non-flammable.
