Bauxite is the principal aluminum ore. Aluminium is extracted from its ore bauxite Al2O3⋅nH2O  Bauxite ore is a mixture hydrous aluminum oxides so the formula is a general one and so n can be on of several integers 1 to 3 There is a lot of variation in bauxite ore. Structurally they can be solid and dense or crumbly. The usual colour is brick red, flaming red or brown because of iron oxide. If iron content is low, ore can be grey or white. But yellow, dark green and even multi-coloured bauxites with bluish, purple, red and black strains occur too.

• Abrasive Use: A12O3 50% (min.) SiO2 4% (max.)
• Chemical and Petroleum Industries: A12O3 58% (min.), Fe2O3 2.5% (max.)
• Steel and Cement Industry use: A12O3 – 40%, SiO2 + 5% and Fe2O3 30 – 40%.
