Contact SupplierThis model BS 101 of Belt Sway Switch comes with 01 NO + 01 NC Contacts along with SS Roller handle.
The switch is housed in Pigmented Black DMC Enclosure which is shock proof, weather proof and corrosion resistant. It has similar strength to metal enclosure which ensure it can withstand harsh outdoor environment. The enclosure offers IP 65 grade protection.
APPLICATION
The Belt Sway Switch is a critical safety component in modern conveying systems. It is extensively used for monitoring belt alignment in conveyor systems across industries such as coal, cement, mining, power generation, chemicals etc.
Designed to detect lateral movement or sway of the conveyor belt, this switch provides early warning and initiates corrective action by triggering an alarm or shutting down the conveyor. This helps prevent damage to the belt, reduce material spillage, and avoid costly downtime due to belt misalignment.
Typical causes of belt sway—such as uneven material loading, misaligned pulleys, or worn-out idler bearings—are quickly detected by the switch, ensuring smooth and safe operation.
CONSTRUCTION
As these switches are used as safety or emergency switch, it is not operated very frequently therefore construction of these switches is such that it should be operated immediately though it kept idle for long time.
RRE Belt Sway Switch is housed in dust and weatherproof D.M.C (Dough Moulding Compound) enclosure having IP 65 grade of protection. The contact roller is supported on Delrin Moulded Bearings or Ball Bearing having high retentivity of lubricants and lowest coefficient of friction for smooth operation of roller over long period of time. The roller mechanism is self- reset type. Contacts are rated for 16 Amps at 440 Volts AC.
OPERATION
As the conveyor belt runs, it may deviate from its path due to uneven loading, worn idlers, or other factors. The misaligned belt comes into contact with the tilted roller lever of the Belt Sway Switch, initiating the following actions꞉
Step 1 – Alarm (20° angle) ꞉ When the belt pushes the roller lever to an angle of 20°, the first switch is activated, triggering an alarm signal. This indicates that the belt is running but requires inspection or adjustment.
Step 2 – Fault (30° angle) ꞉ If the belt sway increases and pushes the lever further to 30°, the second switch is triggered, sending a signal to stop the conveyor, preventing potential damage or hazard.
The switch is self-resetting꞉ once the belt realigns and departs from the roller lever, the mechanism automatically resets. The lever can tolerate a maximum deflection angle of 100°, ensuring protection under severe sway conditions.
