A copying machine is also known as the photocopier machine or Xerox machine. Firstly it was introduced in 1959 as a Xerox, gradually replaced by Photostat, verifax etc. Its major function is to make copies of the documents and other types of visual images on the paper or plastic film quickly; photocopy can be black & white or coloured that varies according to the need. Most present photocopiers employ xerography, a dry process that attracts and then transfers toner particles (a powder) onto paper in the shape of an image using electrostatic charges on a light-sensitive photoreceptor. The toner is subsequently bonded to the paper through heat, pressure, or a combination of the two. Other technologies, such as inkjet, can be used by copiers, but xerography is the industry standard for office copying. This machine comes with many additional advantages like it can be used as a scanner, fax etc.From 13 May 2015, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has required COPYING MACHINE/DUPLICATORS to be registered as per IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 under Compulsory Registration Scheme from BIS. Any person can manufacture a copying machine unless until it is registered under BIS and must be manufactured as per the guidelines mentioned in Indian Standard IS 13252-1.
