Osteoarthritis : Boswellia serrata have been shown to be specific, nonredox and noncompetitive inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase, the key enzyme of leukotriene biosynthesis.

Boswellic acids inhibit the 5-lipoxygenase pathway by which Arachadonic acid is converted to Leukotrienes. Boswellic acids do not appear to inhibit the other two enzymes, which metabolize Arachadonic acid, 12-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase.
