Contact SupplierThe Buddha Bamboo plant, scientifically known as Bambusa ventricosa, is a species of clumping bamboo belonging to the Poaceae family. It is commonly referred to by various names, including Buddha’s Belly Bamboo, Buddha Belly Bamboo, and Giant Buddha Bamboo. Originating from China, this plant is notable for its distinctive swollen internodes, which give it the appearance of having “bellies” along its culms, reminiscent of the rotund belly of the laughing Buddha, hence its name. Physical Description Culms (Stems): The most striking feature of Buddha Bamboo is its unique culms, which are swollen at the internodes, creating a segmented, bulging appearance. These culms can vary in color from green to a golden yellow as they mature, adding to the plant’s ornamental appeal. The swollen internodes are particularly pronounced when the plant is grown in less than ideal conditions, such as restricted root space or limited water. Leaves: The leaves of Buddha Bamboo are lance-shaped, slender, and can grow up to 20 cm long. They are typically a bright green color, forming dense foliage that adds to the plant’s lush appearance. Height: This species can reach heights of 3 to 15 meters (10 to 50 feet) depending on growing conditions and care.
